Honoured to have met H.E. Narendra Modi Ji, Prime Minister of India, at an Interaction Session with Political Leaders of Indian Origin over the weekend in Kuala Lumpur.
We discussed a range of current issues. In particular, I raised the need for greater support to enable Malaysians to pursue skills studies and technical training in India.
I noted that Malaysia currently participates in the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme, under which Malaysian government officials attend training courses in various fields, including TVET, fully sponsored by the Government of India. While this initiative is commendable, more focused efforts can be undertaken in the area of technical and vocational education and training.
China, for example, supports many Malaysians to pursue skills and technical training in China under structured programmes. In the same spirit, India can consider extending similar opportunities, especially to benefit youths seeking quality skills training.
Such cooperation would not only uplift communities but also further strengthen Malaysia–India bilateral ties.
I am heartened by the positive response and will pursue this further. I am hopeful that this initiative will bear fruit and bring good news soon.
