With YB Dato’ Sri Azalina Othman Said, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Law and Institutional Reform engaging the Malaysian diaspora in Canberra, Australia.
We spoke to Malaysian students, those working here, and those who are now living here on the various law and institutional reforms the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department embarked upon last year and what is in the pipeline at present. This includes enacting a Mental Capacity Act for Malaysia, amending the Whistleblower Protection Act 2010 in our fight against corruption, and strengthening our laws on trusts and charities to curb money laundering and regulate charities.
Engagements such as this are important to encourage participative and inclusive law reform so that that we are not reforming our laws in silo without hearing and considering the views of the public.
We then ended the night by treating everyone to some truly tasty Malaysian food!
