I met with Human Rights Watch, (HRW) an international non-governmental human rights organisation, today in Kuala Lumpur.

We discussed an upcoming report being launched by HRW over the next few days entitled “We Can’t See the Sun: Malaysia’s Arbitrary Detention of Migrants and Refugees” highlighted the many legal and institutional challenges faced by migrants and refugees under immigration detention in Malaysia.

These challenges include lengthy periods of detention and detention of refugees, including children. This should not happen, more so in Malaysia.

As this matter falls under the purview of the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN), I will raise the issue with KDN for appropriate action to be taken by them.
