I held a working visit to the Kedah Insolvency Department today accompanied by Puan Azwarnida binti Affandi, Deputy Director-Gen

eral of Insolvency Malaysia and Puan JG Kaameni, State Director of Insolvency, Kedah.

This visit sought to check the number of bankrupts that have been discharged in Kedah to date and the changes faced by the Kedah Insolvency Department in this regard. Members of the Kedah Bar Committee were also in attendance and shared their views and concerns with me and the Kedah Insolvency Department relating to insolvency matters in Kedah.

I was heartened to learn that some 2,199 bankrupts have been discharged in Kedah from March 2023 to date. I have instructed for this process to be sped up for those eligible to meet the Government’s target of 130,000 bankrupts discharged by the end of this year.

Separately, I also had the opportunity to hand discharge from bankruptcy certificates signed by the Director-General of Insolvency to some 15 individuals, who have been given a second chance through this Second Chance policy by the Unity Government in line with the Ihsan principle of the Malaysia MADANI concept.

My working visits to the ground to observe the implementation of our policies will continue so we are fully aware of the realities faced by our officers and members of the public, and may make improvements at the policy level accordingly.
