Yb Kulasegaran and team at My Skill Foundation

 The MySkills complex in Kalumpang has been around since 2011 and prides itself with unconditional dedication in assisting unfortunate youth who have fallen out of interest with their education in normal schools.

MySkills, which is wholly funded by the private sector introduces students here to soft and technical skills.

These students, generally from the lower income group, are trained and housed in the hostels provided at the complex. MySkills basically provides a lifeline to these students who are not accepted by government Institutions.

Presently there are over 200 students getting trained here via public financial assistance. No fees are collected from the students as they cannot afford it.

Today I called up the training centre and provided some basic items to these children to celebrate Deepavali.

I told them;

“ Deepavali is the Festival of Lights where evil forces are driven out and happiness and good fortune is welcomed into the family and society as a whole.

“Deepavali is a festival where Naragasuran was killed by Krishnan and alleviated the  suffering of all people. To celebrate the fall of Naragasuran, we light up the house which symbolises the victory of  good over evil.

“It is symbolic in the sense that we must get rid of ignorance and fill our minds with knowledge and truth. In you context you should get rid of bad habits and acquire new knowledge and skills. Learn new skills and do away with bad habits, that is the real DEEPAVALLI for you.

“There are thousands of under privileged children who have no means for a better life. God has chosen you to come here and earn a better future. God has sent MYSKILLS to take care of you and the same God sent me to do a small part for you all.

“You must be thankful to MYSkills for their effort and dedication to bring the best out of you all. Don’t miss this opportunity.

“Covid-19 has caused hardships to not only Indians but to all Malaysians, we must celebrate the festival moderately without excessive spending and avoid big gatherings. True Deepavali is not about having good food and drinking alcohol. One must be happy and make others happy as it’s the festival of joy.

“You must make full use of the training you are getting here and learn some skills so that when you go out you are equipped and prepared to face the world which is very competitive where only the skilled excel.

“Every day will be Deepavali day, if you have mastered a skill and can obtain decent income and live a comfortable life. Your ultimate dream must be to learn some skills before you leave this place.

“Every one of you could be that light in your family by becoming a skilled worker. Through you, your family will do well and it is all in your hands if that is to happen.
