Speech
by M Kula Segaran, DAP National Vice Chairman and MP for Ipoh Barat in Taman
Universiti, Johore Baru on Sunday, April1 4, 2013 .
Kit Siang has always championed Indian issues.
Happy Chitara
new year to all. It's great on this new year we are organising this ceramah in Gelang Patah.
Sdr. Lim Kit Siang is
going to contest in this seat which has never been won by the opposition since
independence.
Kit Siang is taking a
great risk by contesting here, knowing that if he loses his political career
will come to an end. But with his presence here, we hope it will spur up the morale and support
for the opposition so as to enable the
capture of Putra Jaya possible.
For over 50 years,
the Indian vote bank delivered without fail to the BN. But that all changed in
2008 where MIC the principal Indian representative in the BN saw its President
and Vice President losing in the elections.
It was said nearly
70% of the Indians voted in favour of the opposition.
It's no question that
during the BN rule of our country the Indians have been marganilized and have
become a " underclass" and third class citizens.
Over the years, Indian
percentage in the civil service has dropped from 17% to the present 4+% .
As most Malaysians
know, Indians have notched up rather unflattering superlatives among all the
races. They have lowest life expectancy, the highest student dropout rate, the
highest incidences of alcoholism and drug addiction, and the highest number of
prisoners in proportion to population.
Just a few days ago ,
former MIC president Datuk Seri Samy was widely reported in the Tamil press as
having called for full Indian support for Najib in the coming polls.
Samy described Najib
as the best PM of all the prime ministers of Malaysia, one who is poised to
wipe out poverty among Indians for which an appreciative community must extend
their full support.
PM Najib has promised
to alter the destiny of Indians for the better. It is a promise he did little
or nothing to fulfill in four years in power. The legacy of the preceding 52
years of BN neglect of the Indians is a burden he cannot erase in the next four
or five years.
The DAP recently launched
the 14 point action plan known as the Gelang Patah declaration specially for
the Indians. It has far reaching economic and political benefits which will
over the time put the Indians at par with the other communities.
The Gelang Patah
constituency has over 10%+ registered Indian voters. The Indian voters must go
all out to ensure Kit Siang wins.
Let's not forget in
1992, Kit Siang was suspended without
pay for 9 months from Parliament for raising the MAIKA issue. His record for
speaking out on Indian issues is unmatched by any politician in this country.
In him you can trust.
As Indians are the important king makers in the coming elections the Indian
voters should take this opportunity to fully support Kit Siang .
