My initial thoughts on the tabling of Budget 2026 (Belanjawan 2026) in Parliament today.
This is a budget with a strong emphasis on good governance (tatakelola), aiming to reduce wasteful spending and strengthen enforcement. I am pleased to see the government's commitment to fiscal responsibility, successfully reducing the budget deficit from 5% down to a projected 3.5%.
For the rakyat, here are some key takeaways:
Education: Great news for the community in Pahang with the approval for a new building for SJKT Jeram. Also, a significant incentive for students to excel, as PTPTN loans will be waived for those who graduate with first-class honours.
Youth & Skills: A major RM7.9 billion has been allocated for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). This is crucial for equipping our youth with future-ready skills in fields like AI, robotics, and other technical trades.
Consumer Protection: The introduction of a "Lemon Law" will provide better protection for consumers against faulty products.
Overall, this appears to be a responsible budget focused on sustainable growth and fiscal discipline, rather than short-term populist measures. A prudent step for a stronger Malaysia.
