Working Visit to the Magistrate Court in Seri Manjung, Perak

Today, I conducted a working visit to the Magistrate Court in Seri Manjung, Perak. I was joined by Tuan Azhaniz Teh bin Azman Teh, Deputy Chief Registrar of the Federal Court; Tuan Mohammed Mokhzani Bin Mokhtar, Registrar of the Lower Courts of Malaya; Tuan Meor Sulaiman bin Ahmad Tarmizi, Director of the Perak Courts; and Mr. Balakrishna Balaravi Pillai, Chairman of the Perak Bar Committee, alongside senior members of the local bar and court staff.

The key focus of this visit was to explore the possibility of establishing a Sessions Court in Seri Manjung, within the present court complex. Currently, residents of Seri Manjung must travel significant distances to access the nearest Sessions Courts—86.3km to Ipoh for criminal cases and 71.9km to Batu Gajah for civil matters. This reality presents a clear access to justice concern, particularly for those without the means or time to undertake such journeys.

Access to justice is not just a legal principle—it is a fundamental right. It ensures that every individual, regardless of geography or socioeconomic status, has the ability to seek redress, enforce their rights, and receive fair treatment under the law. For the people of Seri Manjung—a rapidly growing and dynamic district with an increasing volume of legal matters—this access must be made more convenient and equitable.

The proposal for a Sessions Court to sit in Seri Manjung on a circuit basis is a meaningful step toward bridging this gap. I am encouraged by the constructive discussions held today and grateful for the support of all stakeholders present. The Office of the Chief Registrar of the Federal Court will now move this proposal forward through the appropriate channels.

I look forward to updating you as we make progress on this important initiative for the people of Seri Manjung.
