Visit to Seri Manjung Vocational College (SMVC)

Following my working visit to the Magistrate Court in Seri Manjung, Perak, I took the opportunity to visit the Seri Manjung Vocational College (SMVC) in my capacity as a member of the National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Council, chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister.

I was warmly received by Tuan Wan Yusaini, Director of SMVC, along with the senior leadership team of the college. They provided a comprehensive briefing on the range of courses offered and the notable achievements of the institution.

Established in 1991 on a 9-hectare former rubber estate with funding support from the Asian Development Bank, SMVC offers various programmes, including specialisations in electrical and electronic technology. Each intake can accommodate up to 150 students. The college’s vocational education stream leads to the Malaysian Vocational Certificate or Malaysian Skills Certificate and Malaysian Vocational Diploma . The courses offered are also accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

I had the pleasure of speaking with several students from the different vocational tracks and was truly impressed by their passion, drive, and commitment to their chosen fields. Their enthusiasm reflects the growing recognition that TVET plays a critical role in building a skilled workforce and supporting Malaysia’s industrial and economic development.

TVET is not just an alternative to academic pathways—it is a vital pillar of nation-building that opens doors to meaningful, in-demand careers and empowers young Malaysians with real-world skills.
