In every industry digital transformation is changing how
business is conducted and how employees work. Data has now become easily
accessible at the touch of the fingertips and many industries have experienced
a paperless revolution.
However, creating digital-ready companies is not just about
them implementing all the technological advancements, but also about having
employees that are ready to embrace the culture of a digitized workplace.
How digital skill requirements have changed?
Healthcare, finance, and agriculture are only some of the
industries that have seen huge transformations in how digital proficiency can
impact them. The trend has started for manufacturing. It is now believed that more than 82% of middle-skill jobs require
digital skills that require them to use productivity and collaboration tools.
Employee growth
Even though employers look for employees with broader
skills, they often find that even though younger people are dependent on
technology, they have low skills in using technology to solve problems.
Since this lack of digital skills poses many problems for
companies, including loss of productivity, decreased performance and the
inability to retain customers, they need to be able to properly assess the
digital skills of future employees and offer them reskilling and upskilling
opportunities.
Reskilling and upskilling are the surest way to ensure that
employees are always digital-ready, especially because of the continued
fast-pace of developments in technology.
Inhouse learning
Productivity increases enormously when in-house training
opportunities are offered to employees. These can be offered to employees
through a two-pronged approach:
The first, enabling employees to find quick answers and
solutions for problems. These should be readily available to them so that they
can instantly watch a video or find instructions to complete the task at hand.
The second is through offering them learning aids or courses
that they can complete over a longer period of time.
