How to remain quiet but productive?

There is a constant need for noise today and many people feel that without it they cannot be productive. Phone calls, emails and radio are but some of the distractions. However, as the world is getting louder, there is room for silence in productivity. As a matter of fact, research has shown that there is a correlation between quiet and physical, emotional and mental well-being.

Here are the best ways to ensure that you eliminate distractions and find the silence required to remain productive:

·       Waking up earlier – The earlier hours of the day are usually the quietest allowing for time to work and think.

·       Taking regular breaks – Relaxation time contributes to a more productive day and this can be assured by taking regular walk or meditation breaks.

·       Avoiding constant noise stimulation – Wearing headphones all the time over-stimulates the mind. In order to be more productive, leave them off and allow your mind to ponder problems and their solutions.

·       Turning off your mobile – Without a doubt, a mobile device is one of the biggest distractions.  While working, ensure that it’s turned off to silent so that you aren’t tempted to look at it constantly. You can set the device to ring for urgent calls.

·       Find a quiet corner to work – If you are easily distracted by the usual comings and goings of the office, find a quiet corner or office to work from. It is not always possible to work in silence, but you can make a point of seeking those quiet pockets of time during the workday and to isolate yourself.

Busy and bustling is good, but it needs to be offset with quiet time if you are to keep up your productivity. Remember, get enough sleep and find time to balance busy and noisy with tranquillity.
