coaching and skills training for school droputs

The term dropout means fallen out, and it refers to children who drop out of school before having obtained a diploma or degree. Dropouts are not homogenous.  The term "early school leaving" refers to all forms of dropping out of education and training before completing upper secondary education or its equivalents in vocational training. Dropouts can be  involuntary dropouts, health issue dropouts, and capable dropouts. It is a challenge of all of us when inadequate preparation of high school graduates and their unpreparedness when they enter the job market.

Some students have enormous potential but remain unspoken.  Some world business leaders, such as founders or Co-Founders of Apple, Facebook, Twitter and Whatsapp dropped out of college and felt that higher education was not for them. Their life stories are inspirations for teens. Dropouts generally are considered incapable when they should instead be taken in another approach. The same concept can be expressed and explained differently, changing some ways in the transmission of the message this may be finally received. This means that teachers should also learn to approach pupils differently. To counter the phenomenon of early school leaving, coaching can be a turning point. A coaching path aimed at a teenager's personal needs can:

Guide them in clarifying the course of study of various skills aligned with their future desires,

  • Help them unlock the skills potential,
  • Establish counseling and setting up peer support groups,
  • Provide them with the right tools to improve their life skills and school/training performance,
  • Gain greater awareness of themselves and
  • Make them more confident and self-responsible in making decisions for their future.

Furthermore, the use of coaching tools by teachers/ skills trainers can make a real difference by allowing students to discover their skills, also experiencing the confidence and satisfaction of succeeding where they previously did not seem to make it. Therefore, the concept of incapacity or  'incapable' is abandoned to focus on objectives and enhancement of individuality.

Coaching for children is a valuable tool to combat early school leaving and also represents an essential opportunity not only for personal growth and improvement of the student but also to the society.
