Diversity at work places - Diversity awareness in offices

diversity

Diversity is a value in itself. In the context of a talent shortage in many sectors, people from diverse culture can become a survival condition as well as a strategic advantage for a company. So What are actions do you take to welcome diversity within an organisation?

Diversity in business, not only includes cultural dimension. It has women, young people, the disabled; any person who does not correspond to the model of the larger or a majority group.

Here are five gestures to open to diversity.

Remove Blockages

First of all, leaders must identify the blockages of diversity and build a conscience to explain the lack of diversity in the company.
Understand and deconstruct the blockages and if prejudices. First and foremost, the leadership team and HR needs to understand the benefits of diversity to communicate it to the rest of the company better.

Diversify the direction or at the top

Start with diversifying the composition of the leadership management, that will set the course. Smart working or performers will be more motivated to apply for jobs in the image of the company. This identity gives a clear signal that they will be well received and that they will have chances of acceptance and promotions.

Evaluate the management of diversity

Include diversity in organisational control. Have a close look at the work allocations, tasks allocation and the performance assessment. The manager spends 1 or 2 hours a week integrating employees and then evaluating their results.

Allocate mentors

If the company has a duty of openness, the person born of diversity must also make his way, by becoming familiar with the cultural codes of his new workplace. A gesture in this regard is to assign a mentor to him. The new employee has a resource person to ask questions and make sure he understands the employer's expectations.

Remove Silos:

Even in a diverse environment, there is always the risk of silos remaining. Remove that silos and start that from informal places such as cafeteria or recreation spots. Initiate team building activities as a routine.

Unity in diversity is a strategic advantage for organisations as well as our societies.
