Call on Umno President Datuk Seri Najib to direct the cancellation of the Selangor Umno road shows

In his greetings for this year’s Thaipusam, the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib said that he hoped the celebrations in various parts of the country will attract visitors and tourists to experience the richness of Malaysian cultures and diversity.

Indeed, Thaipusam festival at Batu Caves has become an annual event that attracts tens of thousands of tourists.

Blessed indeed is Malaysia that has multi races and multi religions.

However, in every society, there are always racial or religious bigots who cannot understand or accept the richness of multi cultures and diversity.

Malaysia does not lack such bigots, although they are small in number. Over recent years, some of these bigots have been making themselves heard, making remarks and demands which are unacceptable.

Prime Minister Najib has often spoken about concept and values of moderation. But amid growing voices from the racial and religious bigots, he has not spoken to show his strong disapproval of their voices and stands.

Najib must practice what he says and must not allow any one to think that he condones extremism or is afraid to denounce the bigots.

In this regard, Najib and his Cabinet must be prepared to reaffirm their commitment to the 10 point solution.

It has been more than 2 weeks since Jais’s highhanded and illegal raid on Bible Society of Malaysia took place , but why has Najib  and his Cabinet failed to reaffirm the 10 point solution ?

On Wednesday, Selangor State Umno Datuk Seri Noh Omar announced that Umno Selangor has lined up 30 road shows involving 22 Umno branches to “educate” Muslims on the state’s controversial legislation governing propagation among Muslims in view of the Allah row.

The road shows will only put further strain on the interfaith relations in the country and should be cancelled.

I therefore call on the Prime Minister who is also the Umno President to direct that the road shows be cancelled.
