Call on all party delegates and members to reject and be vigilant against baseless, unjust and malicious attacks against Lim Guan Eng and Lim Kit Siang

It was shocking that as CEC reelection approaches, a malicious sms is being circulated targeting at Lim Guan Eng, DAP secretary general and Lim Kit Siang, DAP parliamentary leader.

The sms reads as follows:-
“ Dap's Lim Guan Eng's intention to visit Hindraf leader P.Uthayakumar in kajang jail, all of sudden is only an hidden agenda to fish INDIAN DELEGATES VOTES in cmg Dap's CEC Election on 29.9.13.  All Delegates are strongly advised not to vote the father and son dynasty - pls fwd. - From Selangor Dap Delegates.”

The attacks are baseless and most unfair to both Lim Guan Eng and Lim Kit Siang.

It must be pointed out that Guan Eng did not “all of a sudden” show the interest to want to visit Uthayakumar.

On July 21, it was reported in the media that the family of P. Uthayakumar wants the prison authorities to take his health seriously.

His wife S. Indradevi alleged that her husband did not receive medical attention for his back pain, caused by the Lumbar Degenerative Disc Disease. She also revealed that he has to sleep on a thin mattress and without pillows despite doctors” advice that he be given a pillow.

On July 22, Lim Guan Eng has issued a statement and urged the federal government and the Kajang Prison authorities to immediately ensure that Uthayakumar is given urgent treatment.

He then followed up with official letters to the Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahamd Zahid Hamidi and Prisons Head Dato Zulkifli Omar respectively on July 22 and July 24 to express his wish to visit Uthayakumar.

When Dato Zulkifli in a letter dated September 6 informed Guan Eng that his application was rejected, Guan Eng has 3 days ago publicly reiterated his wish to visit Uthayakumar.

"I was an ex-convict, so I understand his needs and problems," said Guan Eng at a press conference held at DAP headquarters.

On August 15, the DAP CEC has decided to hold re election to avoid being deregistered by Registrar of Societies ( RoS)  although the party felt the directive by RoS does not have sanctity or authority of law.

So it is untrue that Guan Eng has “all of sudden” shown concern for Uthayakumar’s health. It is also unfair to accuse him of wanting to solicit support in the coming CEC election via Uthayakumar’s health issue as the decision to hold reelection was only made on August 15.

I call on all party delegates and members to reject and be vigilant against baseless, unjust and malicious attacks against Lim Guan Eng and Lim Kit Siang.

I also call on the delegates to give their full support to the present national leadership.
