statement by M. Kula Segaran MP Ipoh Barat and DAP National Vice Chairman in
Ipoh on 30th June 2013
_------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Women
can and do play an important role in society .
It is a
known fact that in comparison with other races, the Indians have the
highest rates in suicide, unemployment, single mothers and the like which are
affecting the Indian community.
The DAP
Ipoh Barat recently organized a medical talk in Tamil in Buntong, Ipoh
We are
very grateful to Dr. Shoba who agreed and spoke to over 100 women on the
medicial issues affecting the women community. We are very happy many women who
attended the function also posed many medical questions which were very well
answered by Dr. Shoba in Tamil.
This
programme was the brain child of Sdr.Wasoo and Sdri. Sri Dewi and their team of
women volunteers. At the talk some beautification issues were also
explained.
Also we
have sucessfully launched the Ipoh Barat Women wing. The main new women
leaders are Sdri. Bakiavathi, Sdri. Sakacya, Sdri. Annamal, Sdri. Up Vaneswari
Sdri. Jeevita, Sdri. Mary, Sdri. Terassa and Sdri. Indria Gandhi.
We realise
the women can and do play an important role in society. Although women consist
of nearly 50% of the voters in our country , very few women are active in the
political arena. For the first time in the 2013 elections, we have a Tamil woman elected to the state
assembly namely Sdri. Kamachee and Sdri. Katsura Patto as MP for Batu Kawan. We
are proud and congratulate them for getting elected.
We want to
expand the role of women especially Indian women in politics. Thus we are
inviting and encouraging women of all races to come and join us and participate
in our other women events which we will be organising regularly.
