Call on Dato Sri Najib to immediately and openly condemn the harassment against Ambiga and the violent acts against Pakatan Rakyat ceramahs
Speech by M Kula Segaran, DAP National
Vice Chairman and MP for Ipoh Barat at the Solidarity with Ambiga event held at
8 am at Taiping Market on Friday, June 1, 2012.
Call on Dato Sri Najib to immediately and openly condemn the harassment against Ambiga and the violent acts against Pakatan Rakyat ceramahs.
Right thinking Malaysians throughout the nation have been outraged by the incessant harassment against Bersih co chairman Datuk Ambiga, violating her privacy, human and citizenship rights.
Such harassment and attacks are totally unacceptable, disgraceful and have made Malaysia a laughing stock of the world.
4 days ago, Human Resouces Minister Datuk Dr S Subramanim was reported to have said that the attacks on Ambiga were not racially motivated but due to her role in the movement,
After being criticized, he issued a statement on the next day to clarify.
He clarified that he had said the attacks could have been more to do with her role as the leader of Bersih rather than being racially motivated.
He further said:-
“Nobody will know the real intention of the people who did it. Like all Malaysians, I sincerely hope that the attacks on her were not because of her being a lady or her being an Indian”.
I regret to say that Subramaniam’s clarification is as disappointing as his earlier comments.
Another Bersih leader Pak Samad had earlier said what many public had felt-- that Ambiga was being targeted for her race, religion and to some extent, gender issues that are often played up by the powers-that-be.
This is so plain and obvious, yet Subramaniam was not prepared to state the fact.
As a Cabinet Minister, Subramaniam should in fact ask the Prime Minister Dato Sri Najib to openly condemn the incessant harassment against Ambiga.
The Prime Minister’s silence on the incessant harassment against Ambiga as well the series of violent attacks against Pakatan Rakyat ceramahs is most disappointing and baffling.
His silence will undoubtedly given rise
to perception that he is indirectly condoning such unacceptable acts.
I therefore call on Dato Sri Najib to immediately and openly condemn the harassment against Ambiga and the violent acts against Pakatan Rakyat ceramah
