The Year of Water Dragon will be year of good “Feng Sui” for Pakatan Rakyat.

Speech by M Kula Segaran, DAP National Vice Chairman and MP for Ipoh Barat at the DAP Ipoh Barat Chinese New Year Open House held on Saturday, Feb 4, 2012

The Year of Water Dragon will be year of good “Feng Sui” for Pakatan Rakyat.

In response to the latest speculation that the Parliament could be dissolved after Thaipusam, the Prime Minister Dato Sri Najib Tun Razak said yesterday that the election could be held any time as long as it was before April 2013.

He said that many factors need to be considered before timing for the election can be determined.

Never before in the nation’s electoral history that has there been so much speculation about the dissolution of Parliament.

The fact that the speculation has not come true has actually reflected Naïf’s lack of confidence in BN’s electoral performance.

He has reason to worry as it is clear that despite having been the Prime Minister for almost 3 years, BN has not been able to regain voter support lost in the 2008 general election, especially the Chinese votes.

This is why the former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir has recently suggested that BN should delay calling general elections to allow for more time to win support from groups including the Chinese community.

Dr Mahathir said he was confident Prime Minister Najib would probably secure a simple majority in Parliament without winning back the two-thirds control lost in 2008 if elections were held today.

But he said BN would struggle to win back states held by Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

I disagree with Mahathir on two issues.

Firstly, I believe that even if elections are held now, BN will lose Federal power.

Secondly, even if more time is given to Najib, he will not be able to increase voter support for BN.

Malaysians want change and time has proven that BN government is not committed to political changes which the people want.

When the former Prime Minister Tun Abdulah had a big mandate from the people in the 2004 general election , he squandered it and did not implement changes.

Now that BN is much weakened after the 2008 general election and has all the more reason to implement changes so as to regain the voter support, it too is unable to do so.

Hence, Malaysians who want political changes and a Better Malaysia for All should rise to the occasion in the next general election and vote Pakatan Rakyat to helm Putrajaya federal and Perak state governments.

I am confident the Year of the Water Dragon will be a year of good “Feng Shui” (Wind and Water) for Pakatan Rakyat.

The people’s strong support will form our required “Feng” and the “Water “from the Dragon will provide us with the necessary “ Shui”.

Onwards we march!
