Let’s make the next general election result to be the greatest victory for PR and Malaysians who have long yearned for a better Malaysia for All.
Opening Speech made at DAP Ipoh Barat Election workshop held on held on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 in Ipoh.
Let’s make the next general election result to be the greatest victory for PR and Malaysians who have long yearned for a better Malaysia for All.
Immediately after the conclusion of the recent Umno General Assembly where the Prime Minister Dato Sri Najib had indicated that the general election was around the corner, speculation was rife that the next general election would be held in February or March.
However, if indeed that is Najib’s plan, it may not work out.
Last year, there was reliable talk that he would have dissolved the Parliament if and after the Sarawak state election if BN had performed well, but his plan was thwarted because of the UBAH wave of change.
Now, the La Nina phenomenon may spoil his plan for a February / March 2012 general election.
But what is important is that whenever is the election held, PR and the people must be prepared for the next general election which is not only going to be the most important but also the dirtiest in the nation’s history.
Until after the announcement of the 2008 general election result, no political analyst had ever seriously thought that the BN could lose its traditional two thirds parliamentary majority. No one had also seriously thought that BN could lose power in a few states like Selangor, Perak, and Penang.
But there is now a new political landscape in the nation and no one can totally reject the possibility of BN federal government being toppled in the next general election.
The next general election shall therefore be the most important in the nation’s history. If the UBAH wave can sweep across the nation, then Malaysians will create political history and end the BN rule.
However, the next general election is not going to be an easy battle. In fact, it is going to be the dirtiest in the nation’s history.
There will be downright, dangerous and incredible lies made against the Opposition, especially the DAP.
The allegations made by the Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin against the DAP at the recent Umno General Assembly just shows how desperate and dangerous Umno has become.
DAP was accused of wanting to set up a republic, of being anti Malay, anti Islam and being agents of Christianization.
If any DAP leader had said anything about wanting to set up a republic, hundreds of police reports would certainly have been lodged against the DAP.
How could a Deputy Prime Minister make such a dangerous and even seditious allegation?
DAP is not a new party. We have been around since 1966. Our records are for all to see. All the allegations by Muhyiddin are groundless and baseless.
But Opposition members and supporters can expect more and worse lies from the desperate BN leaders as election approaches.
There will also be politics of fear. Issues like May 13, Malays losing their rights, hudud laws will be exploited to frighten the voters.
Thus, PR and Malaysians who yearn for a better Malaysia for All must be totally prepared for the nation’s most important yet dirtiest election.
PR must be better prepared in all aspects, in terms of publicity and organissation.
But this cannot be a battle fought by PR members only. We need the people power.
PR supporters and Malaysians should play their part by becoming our publicity agents in the social media, at coffee shops and their work places. Debunk and destroy the BN lies and strengthen the UBAH wave.
Let’s make the next general election result to be the greatest victory for PR and Malaysians who have long yearned for a better Malaysia for All.
Pakatan Rakyat especially DAP should field dedicated and committed candidates. Sleeping and selfish candidate have to go home. Only Perak permanent residents should be offered for Perak state seats. Don't import aliens from other states, we have the best candidates in Perak. Why we need others. Do DAP facing shortage of candidates, while we have experienced caring candidates, what is the use of importing aliens.
