The two Umno ministers were targeted for issuing warnings without calling for an investigation into the alleged Christian plot.

PETALING JAYA: The DAP may move motions of censure in Parliament against two Umno ministers for their reactions over an alleged Christian plot.

DAP national vice-chairman M Kulasegaran took Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein and Information, Communications and Culture Minister Rais Yatim to task for their acceptance of the plot without any prior investigations.

“These are two government leaders in charge of ministries that should immediately investigate the malicious and baseless report.”

“Yet, instead of giving immediate orders to investigate the report and calling for calm among the people, they have chosen to play politics,” he said.

Kulasegaran demanded a public apology from the ministers, and threatened censure motions against them in the parliamentary session if they failed to do so.

Last Saturday, Hishammuddin said that any action by followers of a religion would invite reactions from followers of other religions.

On the same day, Rais warned Malaysians not to question the status of Islam as the country’s official religion.

They said this after responding to an Utusan Malaysia report which wrote about an alleged plot involving DAP and Christian leaders to take over the country.

The report, based on the unsubstantiated claims of two pro-Umno bloggers, also accused the groups of praying for a Christian prime minister. This was denied by both the Christian leaders as well as by DAP.

Dangerous lie

Kulasegaran, who is also Ipoh Barat MP, said that both Hishammuddin and Rais should have known how to respond better, given their political experience.

He also found it strange that the two would have adopted such a stance when even Penang Umno assemblymen Hilmi Yahya (BN-Teluk Bahang) and Muhammad Farid Saad (BN-Pulau Betong) did not believe the Utusan report.

Describing the Utusan report as a “dangerous lie”, Kulasegaran said: “There is therefore no justification for them (Hishammuddin and Rais) to accept the Utusan report without question.”

“Any rational politician who is prepared to give an honest answer will say they do not believe the Utusan Malaysia report,” he added.
