Speech by M. Kula, DAP National Vice Chairman and MP for Ipoh Barat at the launching of the Voters Registration Campaign at Kg Tawas Market, Ipoh
Everyone in Perak DAP will have to prove to our supporters that despite some internal problems and personal setback, we shall all be united in fighting for the DAP’s common cause and fighting against our common political foes.
Presently, there are about 5 million eligible citizens who have yet registered as voters. In Perak, those who have yet to register number about 4.5 million.
These are huge figures. If these eligible citizens become qualified voters, they will help play a very decisive role in determining the electoral outcome in many constituencies.
DAP has been calling for the introduction of automatic registration of voters as a solution to solve this problem of many eligible citizens not signing up as qualified voters.
The government has always refused to accept our proposal for the obvious reason—due to the belief that the young and new voters are unfavorable to the Barisan Nasional.
I therefore call on all NGOs to help in getting eligible citizens to register as voters and vote in the next general election for a better Malaysia for all Malaysians.
The coming general election, expected to be held in March or April next year, will be a very important and crucial general election and hence Perak DAP will have to be thoroughly prepared for it.
Now that the Perak DAP party election is over, all comrades must move on and make all out preparation to do battle with BN in the general election.
Everyone in Perak DAP will have to prove to our supporters that despite some internal problems and personal setback, we shall all be united in fighting for the DAP’s common cause and fighting against our common political foes.
