Perak's state government's allocation to MCA divisions is an abuse of power

Perak MCA chief Dr Chua Soi Lek disclosed yesterday that the Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Zambry had agreed to allocate RM50,000 to each of the 24 MCA divisions in the state this year.

Chua was speaking to reporters after leading a delegation of state party leaders to meet Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir at his official residence.

He added that the amount would be increased to RM100,000 next year and that the money would be used for small projects and would be channeled to non-governmental organisations ( NGOs) and schools.

DAP agrees that government allocations should be made for small projects that will benefit the people as well as chanelled to NGOs and schools.

However, it is wrong for government allocations to be allocated to any political party, regardless of what are the purposes of the allocations.

Dr Zambry agreement to make available allocations to the MCA divisions shows that he cannot understand or chooses not to understand the principle whereby government's funds must not be given to political parties.

The same goes for Dr Chua who has made such a request.

In fact, the fund allocation to the MCA divisions as revealed tantamounts to an abuse of power by the Perak state government.

All the funds intended for small projects should be made available through the elected representatives of the areas while funds meant for NGOs and schools should be made directly to them.
