Second Post Mortem on Teoh Beng Hock

Coroner Azmil Muntapha Abas has on November 4 allowed the application by the family of late Sdr Teoh Beng Hock to have his remains exhumed so that a second post-mortem on him can be carried out.

Together with DAP parliamentary leader Sdr Lim Kit Siang, I had attended the Court proceedings at Shah Alam. We had met Beng Hock's siblings whom I observed were still very pained by his sudden demise on July 16.

The second post mortem details will only be determined by the court on Monday, November 9.

In allowing the family's application, the Coroner also ordered that the second post-mortem be handled by a medical officer in the presence of four forensic experts, namely Dr Khairul Azman Ibrahim, Dr Prashant Naresh Samberkar, Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand and another expert to be appointed by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission .

It was a disappointment in a way for the Teoh family and many Malaysians that Dr Porntip will not be able to personally carry out the second post mortem due to legal restrictions. Nevertheless, it is hoped that with her supervision, the second post mortem will be able to reveal the truth -- whether Beng Hock had died of homicide.

Many Malaysians have not expected the Inquest which started on July 29 to last so long. They are also waiting anxiously to know the outcome.

Lets hope that with the presence of four forensic experts at the second post mortem, the truth as to how Beng Hock had died could be established with finality.
